Hoboken PATH Station Set to Close on Thursday
The Hoboken Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) station is closing this Thursday and will reopen on February 25th, due to station and rail upgrades. PATH commuters will now look for an alternative route to get around.
The station is located inside Hoboken Terminal and is one of the busiest PATH stations on the line. It is used by nearly 20,000 people daily.
This closure is part of a broader $430 million investment by the Port Authority aimed at enhancing the overall reliability and efficiency of the PATH system. The planned improvements at the Hoboken station include significant track replacements, platform enhancements, and the refurbishment of four staircases. These upgrades are essential to modernize the aging infrastructure, improve safety, and accommodate increasing passenger demand.
Commuters are advised to stay informed about the latest developments and service changes during the closure period. Regular updates will be provided by the Port Authority and NJ TRANSIT through their official channels. To alleviate some stress from commuters who use the station often, the New York Waterway Ferry, which has two terminals in Hoboken, will be charging the same fare amount of PATH to ride from Hoboken to Lower Manhattan. Customers will need to purchase an NYWW ticket and show a metro card or smart link card when boarding the ferry.
In addition, a temporary 33rd Street–World Trade Center route will be established. Additionally, NJ TRANSIT Bus, Rail, and Light Rail services at Hoboken Terminal will remain operational and are expected to run as scheduled. Commuters are encouraged to consider alternative travel options, such as utilizing the NJ TRANSIT services or the NY Waterway ferry, to navigate the temporary disruption.
At the beginning, of the new year, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced they were raising the travel fares on PATH for the first time since 2014. The fares jumped by a quarter going from $2.75 one way to $3 one way. The rise in fares will be used to help cover the costs of upgrading the Hoboken Station.
