BEDMINSTER, NJ - Leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli formally met with President Donald Trump at his golf course for an event.
Last night, Trump flew into Morristown Airport where he would spend the weekend at his residence in Bedminster before flying out to Philadelphia on Monday.
“Tonight, my great honor and pleasure to share time with POTUS at Trump National in Bedminster,” said Ciattarelli on X (formerly Twitter).
The pictures of Ciattarelli and Trump have been making their rounds since Jack posted the pictures of the pair on social media. However, the biggest talk of the town was first reported by New Jersey Globe’s David Wildstein, which shows Ciattarelli having a one-on-one discussion with the 47th President. This begs the question, what were the two talking about?
Jack’s meeting with Trump is significant. Not only is it the first time Jack met Trump in person, but it comes amidst an increasingly divided Republican primary, mostly taking place in the land of X. The division is over which gubernatorial candidate is considered to be the most “Trumpy,” which is a very common theme in today’s Republican Party.
Considering how well Trump performed in the Garden State last November and recent polls showing Trump’s approval rating in the state is at the highest it has ever been; Republican gubernatorial candidates will be facing stiff questions about their current and previous support of DJT. In January, a poll showed that Trump was considered more popular in the Garden State than Democratic Governor Phil Murphy, who is term-limited and will not be able to seek re-election this fall.
Many pollsters predict the 2025 gubernatorial race will be between Ciattarelli and Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill. Republicans have not won a statewide race since 2013 when Chris Christie easily won re-election against then-Senator Barbara Buono.
