NJO Exclusive: The Republican Party Under New Leadership
Lara Trump Headlines New GOP Leadership
The Republican Party is officially under new leadership with Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and Co-Chair Drew McKissick stepping down. The GOP is now led by Chairman Michael Whatley who previously served as Chairman of the North Carolina GOP and Co-Chair Lara Trump, the former President’s daughter-in-law. The MAGA wing of the party is officially in the RNC driver’s seat.
After Trump was elected RNC Co-Chair, the speaker who introduced her said, “In a world where qualifications are often measured by titles and years of experience, we’re reminded of a truth: God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called. Lara Trump is the embodiment of this truth.” This quote was met with intense backlash on X with many users calling Lara Trump “Nepo-Chair” considering Trump had no previous experience having a federal or state-level party position while being related to the presumptive Republican nominee. Lara has vowed to spend “every single penny” the RNC has to send Donald Trump back into the White House; which will neglect down-ballot candidates. This will include funding DJT’s incredibly large legal bills. The RNC already has a cash disadvantage compared to the DNC; and with Lara vowing to spend all RNC cash on her father-in-law, the question bears: How much money is going to go to down-ballot candidates; especially in the races that are in battleground states like Pennsylvania or Nevada?
Other big questions that the RNC needs to answer: What is the early voting and vote-by-mail strategy? How are we going to appeal to independents and moderates which DJT is alienating? How do we win back DeSantis and Haley supporters? How are we going to preserve election integrity? If Republicans lose big this November, this leadership team will be looked at as a colossal failure. It will also mark the beginning of a massive rebuild for the GOP.

I like Whatley, he's done a phenomenal job in NC... Less thrilled about Laura. Important to get DeSantis voters on board, but I think we'll be fine without the whole 5 Republicans who support Haley without a salary attached to that support.
