Trump’s Rapid-Fire Agenda: Day One and Two Highlights
From the border to the economy: Trump’s back with a vengeance (and a pen)
President Donald Trump has hit the ground running in his second term; bringing back many policy positions his administration took in his first term. Here is a recap of the major decisions the Trump administration has made thus far.
Withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and World Health Organization
If this sounds familiar, Trump ordered the United States to leave both of these organizations during his first term in 2020 on July 7 and November 4 respectively. When Biden took office in 2021, he ordered the US to rejoin both organizations. Now that Trump has taken office again, the US has left both the PCA and the WHO. If a Democrat succeeds Trump come January 2029 if they choose to rejoin PCA and the WHO. Democrats and Republicans have been at odds on climate for a while.
Declaring Border Crisis a National Emergency
Trump has declared the crisis at the southern border a national emergency. The border was a complete mess under Biden; going to extreme lengths to cover up the mess. Alejandro Mayorkas falsely claimed the border was closed and secure. VP Harris was named the border czar however never addressed the problem once. Security on the southern border remains a partisan issue for both parties. However, this issue is a system problem, not a political one.
Tariffs on Foreign Countries
Trump plans to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and potentially some of the BRICS nations (ie China, Iran, and Russia) on February 1. Many of these countries owe the United States as the national debt has reached over $36 trillion. Imposing these tariffs will help the US get the money they are owed from foreign countries. Trump's foreign policy has always been when making trades with other countries that America gets the best deal.
Federal Government Hiring Freeze
In one of Trump’s first actions of becoming president, he placed a temporary hiring freeze on the federal government until they could control it. This also includes all federal government workers must work in the office 5 days per week. Remote and hybrid work has come to a halt. In addition, Trump let go of many appointees from the previous administration, and military soldiers who were shown the door for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine have been reinstated into the military with back pay.
Investing in Artificial Intelligence
Trump has announced the formation of the Stargate Project; a $500 billion investment over the next four years to build AI infrastructure. This would create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and revolutionize the AI industry, In addition, the project will create massive economic comfort for the world. The Stargate Project will help make the US a world leader in the future of AI. AI has garnered a lot of attention over the past few years, with millions of people using it daily.
